Bill focuses on keeping insurance Wilkes Barre Times-Leader

State Rep. Todd Eachus , D-Butler Township, says the insurers, including Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, have refused to renegotiate the Community Health Reinvestment agreement, in which the Blues agreed five years ago to provide the primary source of funding for the adultBasic program. The CHR agreement is set to expire Dec. 31.

So, Eachus on Monday proposed legislation to force the companies to continue funding the program until the federal health insurance program is implemented in Pennsylvania, likely in 2014.

Without a renegotiated agreement, the program will all but shut down, forcing thousands to go without any health insurance, Eachus said.

“Over the past two months, I have tried to work with the Blues to find some solution that keeps those in the adultBasic program covered. I don’t think it’s responsible to dump people out of the insurance marketplace – especially … when so many working Pennsylvanians are struggling to make ends meet,” Eachus said.
