Viewpoint: Pull down barriers to minority health care MassLive.com

Massachusetts' so-called progress (Romney Care) was and is a broken system. Despite being fueled by one of the most tax-laden states in the union, it took only five years for it to end up in the red. Like everything the government in our state has laid their wretched, greasy hands on, health care became hopelessly inefficient, and went laughably over budget.

Contrary to what Ms. Harris has to offer, most in poor health are at least partially to blame for their condition. There is no secret to maintaining a healthy weight - don't consume an unnecessary amount of calories, and exercise often. Sure, many people have trouble keeping off the pounds, and yes, many lead busy lives and simply cannot exercise as often as they should, but shifting the blame from the person to the state is ridiculous. Many people simply don't care what they eat, and many pass poor food choices and even worse exercise habits on to their children. It's not the states role to make sure people aren't gorging themselves and sitting on the couch all day. If that is the way one want's to live their life, it is their God-given right to do so. However, please spare me the redistributive rhetoric that people around the Commonwealth should somehow subsidize food markets.
