May 11 (Bloomberg) -- Park Jin Ho said he borrowed 110 million won ($98,580) to buy shares in Samsung Life Insurance Co.’s $4.3 billion initial public offering. He isn’t worried about financial-market volatility that spurred companies from New York to Hong Kong to postpone sales last week.
“I may not be able to sell the shares on the first trading day as stock-market sentiment has dramatically changed,” the 45-year-old bank employee said in an interview in Seoul. “Still, I’m pretty positive on the stock market and Samsung Life in this environment of super-low rates.”
Smaller investors have flocked to South Korea’s biggest- ever IPO, seeking to put cash to work amid record-low interest rates and a flagging property market. Seoul-based Samsung Life received orders for 41 times the $863 million portion of the sale reserved for individuals, according to Korea Investment & Securities Co., one of the arrangers of the deal.
